AirRob: Tote Storage and Retrieval

AirRob: Tote Storage and Retrieval

The AirRob is a ground-breaking tote-handling solution that delivers high storage density with rapid and accurate picking.

The Basics:

The AirRob travels horizontally and vertically on a lightweight frame fitted onto the face of the rack.

An operator requests a stored item, the AirRob robot picks up the tote containing the item from the rack, and a ground robot (floorbot) brings it to the operator.

“We deployed AirRob on our existing racks and the results exceeded our expectations. Storage capacity increased by 30 per cent and throughput efficiency is now three times greater than it was. And, because everything is automated, forklift operators are no longer needed, so our operational costs have been reduced.”

– Dong Yucheng, Uniqlo Warehouse Manager

How It Works

1

When an order is received by the client’s WMS, the AirRob travels to the tote containing the item requested.

The floor robot return to the racks and transfers the tote back to the AirRob to be put away in storage

2

The AirRob passes the tote to a floor robot, which then takes it to the operator.

3

The operator picks the items they need. Orders containing multiple SKUs will have multiple totes brought to the operator.

4

The floor robot returns to the racks and passes the tote back to the AirRob for storage.

Up to 8 meter high racks

0.85 meter aisle widths

Key Benefits

High Storage Density

Aisle widths: 0.85m

Gap between totes: 10–30mm

Significantly reduces the amount of storage space needed

High Efficiency

Single AirRob: pick and stores 150 totes/hour

One workstation: handles 600 totes/hour

Scalable

The system is able to handle 20,000 totes/hour

We can implement projects in phases to minimize disruption to your operations

Low Installation Requirements

No need for costly infrastructure modifications. There are no special requirements for the floor, except that it be flat

Eco-Friendly

The AirRob is energy efficient, requiring 150W / unit

The floor robot requires only 30W / unit, with 3 hours battery life after 4 minutes of charging

Case Study: SKECHERS

SKECHERS' warehouse, a typical multi-story structure, faces challenges with limited ground load-bearing capacity. However, the AirRob's lightweight deployment eliminates this constraint.

By automating the entire area, manual handling and temporary storage space have been greatly reduced, resulting in a 50% saving in warehouse space.
